Very Nice Nik, what do you use for cleaning live veins?

Thanks.

I use tweezers and a wire brush. (Just be gentle)

Sorry I am a true noob when it comes to conifers(When I lived in Brazil I basically only had deciduous) here in the US conifers are more common, You know how if you collect a urban yamadory like a juniper a lot of them have grayish flaky bark, like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/43128917@N06/3970056155/ Do I peel off the flaky bark?

Jus peel it off (if you want to). On some junipers the flaky bark looks good and makes them look older. But usually that's not the cace with urban yamadori.
So yes, just peel it off.
